The Loom Bielefeld is opened on October 26, 2017 Mall of the operator ECE Projektmanagement in Bielefeld in the district center directly integrated into the pedestrian zone between Bahnhofstrasse, Stresemannstraße and Zimmerstraße.

history

In 2011, ECE took over the City Passage built in 1977 in downtown Bielefeld. The management decided to demolish the City Passage and build a new shopping center. Construction work began in October 2015. The construction costs amounted to 135 million euros. After two years of construction, the shopping center opened in October 2017.

The name Loom (English loom ) is intended to refer to the historical history of the site where the first sewing machine factory in Bielefeld was once located. Bielefeld itself was a center of the linen industry for a long time . After an opinion poll, the name “Loom” was approved by a majority.

location

The shopping center is located within the pedestrian zone of Bielefeld city center between the main train station and the old town starting at Jahnplatz when coming from the train station .

architecture

At the center of the building is an elliptical plaza over 4 floors, which are bridged by a 24 meter long escalator . The subject of linen is taken up in many places architecturally and in the furnishings.

Occupancy

110 different shops were presented at the opening on a total area of 26,000 square meters. The largest provider is the textile discounter Primark , which occupies over 5,000 square meters on three floors. Other larger stores are Smyths Toys ( Toys “R” Us at the opening ), Bershka , Pull & Bear , Superdry and the supermarket chain Rewe . A separate area was created for the currently nine fast-food restaurants, the so-called "Loom Kitchen".
