The Lopavent GmbH (until 2006 Planetcom GmbH ) is a company based in Berlin that the Love Parade held and applied. Rainer Schaller has been the company's managing director and sole shareholder since January 2006. Lopavent GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of Loveparade GmbH. Until 2006, Ralf Regitz was the sole managing partner of PlanetCom GmbH, which was insolvent at the time and was bought and renamed by Rainer Schaller alongside Loveparade GmbH.

The planned Loveparade 2009 in Bochum was canceled due to safety concerns. Lopavent GmbH wrote in a statement at the time: “After months of intensive discussions and multiple checks, we followed Bochum's request not to organize a Love Parade in Bochum. [...] The challenges have increased due to the enormous success of the last few years. We will examine the following cities and the local conditions in detail and want to be at the start again in the year of RUHR.2010 - European Capital of Culture in the Ruhr Metropolis. "

In October 2009, representatives from Lopavent, the city of Duisburg and the business development agency metropoleruhr GmbH came to the conclusion that the Love Parade in Duisburg in summer 2010 was feasible. At that time, the future event site, the former Duisburg freight yard near Duisburg Central Station , was considered. The property owner, aurelis Real Estate GmbH & Co. KG , could also imagine the area as an event space for the Loveparade 2010.

Accident at the Love Parade 2010

At the Love Parade on July 24, 2010 in Duisburg there was an accident in which 21 people were killed. At least 652 visitors were injured during the entire event. After the accident, there was massive criticism of the Lopavent. After the accident, the Lopavent website was replaced by a static page with a funeral forum and pastoral care offers . Managing director Rainer Schaller declared the day after the accident that there would be no more Love Parade.

Lopavent had taken out organizer liability insurance with the German subsidiary of Axa for the Love Parade 2010 . The total sum insured of 10 million euros was divided into 7.5 million euros for personal injury and 2.5 million euros for property damage.
