The Business Ruhr GmbH (to September 2017: Economic Development metropoleruhr GmbH ), headquartered in Essen is the regional economic development of the Ruhr area . The company was founded in 2007 by the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR) with the aim of acting as the central point of contact for economic development in the region and providing impetus for the four associated districts and eleven independent cities. BMR develops and markets the Ruhr Metropolis as a business location and bundles the economic interests of the 53 cities in the region. Rasmus C. Beck is the chairman of the management board.

Tasks & goals

The aim of the work of the BMR is to increase the competitiveness of the Ruhr area. This includes developing the Ruhr Metropolis as a source of inspiration for future-oriented projects and promoting the image of the business location as a high-performance and innovative region nationally and internationally.

The BMR acts in five fields of activity: internationalization and location marketing, space and investor service, project development in the lead markets, funding and innovations as well as structural policy issues. The BMR implements measures and projects in cooperation with partners from municipalities, the state, federal government and business in the region.

The BMR promotes the internationalization activities of SMEs and municipalities in the region by taking on a pilot and information function, developing concepts for internationalization strategies and organizing delegation trips to relevant target countries. The establishment of foreign companies in the region is also supported, for example with the digital investment platform Invest.Ruhr. For location marketing of BMR location assurance and development belongs as well as the national and international site profiling. The company advises cities and districts in the Ruhr Metropolis on how to apply for funding.

In order to win investors for the Ruhr economic area, BMR Services has developed in cooperation with the cities of the metropolis:

  • Invest.Ruhr: The platform bundles the latest figures and analyzes on the Ruhr real estate market, economic and structural data as well as the location search and investor service offers in a new digital product.
  • The digital area atlas ruhrAGIS provides comprehensive information for the Ruhr area on around 33,000 commercial areas with background information such as availability, local companies and sector allocation.
  • The free real estate database ruhrsite contains commercial building sites , office and commercial real estate of all kinds in combination with economic indicators.
  • The BMR offers investors individual advice when looking for a location.
  • The economic report Ruhr shows the potential of the region and gives investors a look at the economic area Ruhrgebiet .
  • BMR organizes trade fair appearances for cities and companies in the Ruhr area, for example at the real estate fair Expo Real in Munich , MIPIM in Cannes and polis - the Convention in Düsseldorf .
  • The BMR publishes the real estate market report Ruhr annually: A compact reference work for the development of the real estate market Metropole Ruhr in the segments of office, logistics, corporate and retail real estate.

history

The forerunner of Business Metropole Ruhr GmbH was Projekt Ruhr GmbH, which was founded in 2000 as a subsidiary of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to carry out project work in the areas of realizing municipal development priorities, public-private partnerships and development of competence fields . This was transferred to the metropoleruhr GmbH business development agency in 2007. In 2017 the name was changed to Business Metropole Ruhr GmbH.

Major public events

The BMR organizes and coordinates the joint appearance of the Ruhr Metropolis at the real estate fair Expo Real every year. Every year the BMR organizes the ideas competition Innovation Call. The finale - the Innovation Day - will take place in Essen in spring.
