Lord Avondale
Lord Avondale (also Avandale ) was a hereditary British title of nobility that was awarded twice in the Peerage of Scotland . It is named after the valley of the Scottish River Avon.
Awarding and other titles
The title was first awarded to Andrew Stewart in 1459 . He was Chancellor of Scotland from 1460 to 1482. He was a grandson of Murdoch Stewart, 2nd Duke of Albany . When he died childless in 1488, the title expired.
In the second award, the title was awarded on February 4, 1500 to Andrew Stewart . This was a great-nephew of the Lord's first bestowal. His son, the 2nd Lord, exchanged the territory connected with the title, the feudal barony of Avondale , with Sir James Hamilton of Finnart (son of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran ) for his feudal barony of Ochiltree , placed the title of Lord Avondale and got on March 15, 1543 instead the title of Lord Stewart of Ochiltree bestowed.
