Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Stewart of Ochiltree
Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Stewart of Ochiltree († 1548 ) was a Scottish peer .
He came from a branch of the Stewart family . He was the eldest son of Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Avondale from his marriage to Margaret Kennedy, daughter of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy . When his father died in the battle of Flodden Field in 1513 , he inherited it as 2nd Lord Avondale .
In 1524 he held the court office of Master Usher of the King's Chamber , in 1527 he was sheriff of Dunbartonshire .
On March 15, 1543 he renounced the title of Lord Avondale in favor of the crown and was instead given the title of Lord Stewart of Ochiltree . With royal consent, he had exchanged the territory associated with his title, the feudal barony of Avondale , with Sir James Hamilton of Finnart, son of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran , for his feudal barony of Ochiltree .
In August 1515 he had married Lady Margaret Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran . He had four children with her:
- Isabel Stewart ⚭ Duncan Macfarlane of that Ilk;
- Margaret Stewart († 1606) ⚭ Sir Roger Aston;
- Andrew Stewart, 2nd Lord Stewart of Ochiltree (around 1521-1602);
- Walter Stewart (* around 1522).
When he died in 1548, his elder son Andrew succeeded him as 2nd Lord Stewart of Ochiltree.
