Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Avondale († 1513)

Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Avondale (* before 1479 - † September 9, 1513 ) was a Scottish peer .

He came from a branch of the Stewart family . He was the eldest surviving son of Alexander Stewart († 1489) and grandson of Walter Stewart of Morphie († before 1488). When his father died he inherited the lands of Avondale from him . His father had inherited these in 1488 from his uncle Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Avondale , who had received them after King James II had confiscated them from James Douglas, 9th Earl of Douglas .

On February 4, 1500, King James IV gave him the title of Lord Avondale , making him a member of the Scottish Parliament . From 1502 to 1509 he held the court office of the First Usher of the King's Chamber . In 1512 he received the office of Lord Auditor of the Checker . He fell, like his king, in 1513 at the Battle of Flodden Field .

In early 1500 at the latest he had married Margaret Kennedy, daughter of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy . With her he had five sons and three daughters:
