Lorenz Meyer

Lorenz Friedrich Meyer (born January 3, 1948 ) is a Swiss lawyer and former President of the Federal Supreme Court , the highest court in Switzerland. He is a member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP) .

biography

Meyer studied law at the Universities of Bern and Paris . After being granted the advocacy patent in 1974, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Bern. In 1976 he became court secretary at the Federal Supreme Court before he became judicial secretary for the canton of Bern in 1981 . From 1987 to 2000 Meyer was a judge at the administrative court of the canton of Bern, which he also presided over from 1995 to 1998. After working as a part-time federal judge from 1988, he was elected federal judge on June 21, 2000.

On December 1, 2008 Meyer was elected President of the Federal Supreme Court as the successor to Arthur Aeschlimann for the 2009/2010 term of office with all 223 valid votes . On December 15, 2010, he was confirmed as President for 2011/2012.

Meyer is single.
