Lorenz Winkler-Horaček
Lorenz Winkler-Horaček (born August 11, 1963 in Essen ) is a German classical archaeologist .
Life
Lorenz Winkler-Horaček studied Classical Archeology, Ancient History and Islamic Studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and at the Free University of Berlin from 1982 to 1991 . A scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service enabled him to study in Tunis . The doctorate took place in 1991 with a thesis on Salus . From state cult to political idea. An archaeological investigation in Heidelberg. The travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute enabled him to travel to the Mediterranean and the Middle East in 1991/92. In 1993 Winkler-Horaček became a university assistant for Classical Archeology at the Heinrich Schliemann Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Rostock , and in 2000 he became a research assistant there. The Habilitation in February 2004. 2002 and 2008 he received an honor award for the doctrine of the Society of Sponsors of the University of Rostock, the 2007 Recognition Award from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Higher Education competition thrilled spirit . In 2007, Winkler-Horaček moved to the Institute for Classical Archeology at the Free University of Berlin. There he is custodian of the antique plastic cast collection in Berlin , was initially an academic advisor and has been an adjunct professor since 2014.
Winkler-Horaček's research is oriented towards visual science. The focus is on the imagery of archaic Greece and Rome, in particular on the relationship between humans and animals as well as the mechanisms of the so-called Roman art of representation. Further research focuses are the history and the cultural-historical significance of cast collections of ancient sculptures. He has also organized several archaeological exhibitions.
