Lorenzo Balestro (born June 23, 1954 in Verona ) is a former Italian football player and today's coach .

Career

As a player

Balestro began his career in 1973 at Juventus Turin , but never played here and in 1974 moved to Reggina Calcio , who were then playing in Serie C , and made 30 appearances in his first season. At the end of his first season, he finished sixth with Reggina. In the 1975/76 season Balestro came to 17 missions, in the 1976/77 season he ran eight times.

In 1977 Balestro moved to Apulia for FC Bari 1908 , which was then called AS Bari , and reached 13th place in the table with his team in Serie B. After 48 games for Bari Balestro moved to Paganese Calcio . He then played for FBC Derthona , reached eighth place with the club in the 1983/84 season of Serie C2. From 1985 to 1988 he played for Chievo Verona for three years and then ended his career.

As a trainer

Three years after the end of his career as a player, Balestro began his coaching career at Ravenna Calcio in 1990 as a youth coach. In 1991 he was hired by Chievo Verona to coach the youth team, in 1994 he coached Chievo's second team, and in 1996 the youth team again.

On January 26, 1998 Balestro was used interim as coach of the first team, which were playing in Serie B at that time, head coach Silvio Baldini was dismissed. Balestro used a 3-4-3 system and beat Cagliari Calcio 2-1. Then Domenico Caso was signed as the new coach, but dismissed after 12 points from 14 games. Following Caso's dismissal, Chievo Verona announced that Balestro would be the new head coach. Since Balestro had problems with the coaching license, he was replaced a short time later by Luciano Miani and acted at his side as an assistant until 2000. Since 2000 Balestro has been employed as a talent scout at Chievo Verona.
