history

Detail of the Lossen monument

On October 17, 1896, at the suggestion of the Natural Science Association of the City of Wernigerode, not far from the then still independent Prussian community of Hasserode, a four-meter-high granite obelisk with a relief medallion and memorial plaques, surrounded by numerous rocks from the Harz, was erected as a memorial for Lossen.

On October 17, 1993, after a repair, it was completed in its current reconstructed and expanded form, as it had previously been the victim of vandalism and theft due to its somewhat remote location.

The monument is a station on the natural history and geological nature trail Wernigerode-Hasserode .

In the local register of monuments , the Lossen memorial is listed as an architectural monument under registration number 094 25040.
