Lothar Bohlen

Lothar Bohlen (born November 21, 1886 in Hamburg , † 1978 ) was a German businessman. Bohlen was the managing director of the Woermann line and first chairman of the Africa Association . A ship was also named after him.

Life

He was the son of the shipowner JF Eduard Bohlen and his wife Luise, geb. Woermann. His father was a partner in the Hamburg company G. Woermann, member of the board of the African Steamship AG Woermann Line and the German East Africa Line, and Consul General of the Congo Free State .

After completing school, Lothar Bohlen completed an apprenticeship at Woermann-Linie in Hamburg. He then went on trips abroad, especially to Africa. In 1912 he became a member of the board of the Woermann Line and the German East Africa Line. He was also Consul of Liberia . He sat on the supervisory board of other Hamburg companies such as Deutsches Kohlen-Depot GmbH and Syndikatsreederei, on the board of the employers' association Hamburg-Altona and on the administrative board of the Übersee-Club . During the First World War he took part in the campaign in German East Africa . He was awarded the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class.

Bohlen had been with Elisabeth, born in 1912. Schütte (1888–1977), daughter of the Sanitary Councilor Paul Theodor Schütte, married. The marriage resulted in two daughters and a son.
