Lothar Göttsching

Lothar Göttsching (born August 7, 1936 in Berlin ; † September 26, 2018 in Roßdorf ) was a German scientist and from 1971 to 2002 head of the Institute for Paper Manufacture at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

Life

Göttsching was born in Berlin in 1936 as the son of Robert and Margarete Göttsching. In 1943 he was evacuated to his mother's home in Neumark in eastern Brandenburg . At the end of the Second World War , the family was expelled by the Red Army and Göttsching grew up in Bad Soden am Taunus .

In 1956 he began studying at the Technical University of Darmstadt and graduated in 1961 with a diploma as a paper engineer. From 1961 to 1966 he worked as a research assistant at the Finnish Pulp and Paper Research Institute (KCL) in Helsinki . From 1966 to 1971 he worked as head of research and development for the Vereinigte Verpackungsgesellschaft GmbH in Monheim / Rhineland . In 1969 he became a Dr.-Ing. PhD.

Göttsching was appointed to succeed Walter Brecht at TH Darmstadt in 1971 .
