Lothar Köhler (sports official)

Lothar Köhler (born November 17, 1925 in Georgenthal ; † May 25, 2008 ) was a German sports official . From 1974 to 1990 he was president of the German Skier Association (DSLV) of the GDR .

Life

Köhler did military service in the Wehrmacht during the Second World War and was an English prisoner of war from 1944 to 1948. After his return he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In 1952 he finished studying physical education / art education at the Institute for Physical Education at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and became a sports teacher. From 1954 he took over the training of all sports students in Jena in the University Sports Association (HSG) and worked as a trainer for women and alpine sports. When the German Skier Association of the GDR (DSLV) was founded in October 1958, he became a member of the executive committee and vice-president of the association. He was a member of the coaching council and until 1963 chairman of the youth commission of the DSLV. Köhler became a district school councilor and from 1965 was a member of the Klingenthal district council .

From April 1974 to 1990 he was President of the DSLV (successor to Gerhard Hochmuth ). At the same time, he was a member of the federal board of the German Gymnastics and Sports Federation (DTSB) and a member of the Executive Committee for Nordic Combined of the International Ski Federation (FIS). On June 28, 1974, he was also confirmed as a full member of the National Olympic Committee of the GDR .

During the reunification in the GDR he led a working committee of the DSLV from January 1990 and was finally replaced by Ulrich Wehling at the end of April 1990 . In the same year he was co-founder of the Thuringian Ski Association and its vice-president. Köhler last lived in Klingenthal . He died at the age of 82.
