Lothar Kalb

Lothar Kalb (* 1936 ) is a German sports educator , university lecturer and sports book author.

Life

Kalb worked at the Workers and Farmers Faculty of the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig as a teacher in the subjects of German and history, from 1963 he was decisively involved in the development of the international trainer courses in the training department. From 1964 to 1990, Kalb then headed the Institute for Foreign Studies, and from April 1964 28 participants from Asian and African countries took part in the first year of the nine-month courses. In publications he dealt several times with the training and further education of trainers from Africa, Asia and South America carried out at the DHfK. The topic of the courses for foreign trainer candidates was also his book “Sendboten Olympias. The History of Foreign Studies at the DHfK Leipzig ”to the content.

In the meantime, he completed his studies at DHfK with a doctorate, the subject of his dissertation A  , submitted in 1975, was “On the role of physical culture and sport in the process of national and social liberation on the African continent”. From 1975 to 1982 he was the chairman of the HSG DHfK Leipzig .

In 1985 he completed his dissertation B , the title of his thesis was “Social determinants and special development factors in the design of physical culture and sport in the nationally liberated states and the content, forms and results of solidarity-based cooperation between GDR sport and the countries of Asia and Africa and Latin America ”.

Kalb was appointed to a UNESCO specialist group that worked out training programs for developing countries and of which he was a member from 1985 to 1990.

He is co-editor of the book "German Sports University for Physical Culture Leipzig 1950-1990", which appeared in 2007. Kalb contributed to this work “The international scientific relations of the DHfK”, “The training and further education of foreign sports experts at the DHfK” and, together with Walter Renner, “Cooperation in the HSG - an integral part of the course”.
