Lothar Koenigs

Lothar Koenigs (* 1965 in Aachen ) is a German conductor .

Life

Lothar Koenigs attended the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in Aachen and then studied piano and conducting at the Cologne University of Music . After completing his studies, he worked in Hagen , Münster and Bonn . From 2000 to 2003 he was general music director at the Osnabrück Municipal Theaters . Lothar Koenigs has been Music Director of the Welsh National Opera since 2009 .

In 2003 he conducted Alban Bergs Wozzeck at the Opéra national de Lyon . This was followed by engagements at the Dresden Semperoper with Don Giovanni and at the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York with Don Giovanni. In 2004 he conducted a Janáček cycle in Lyon with Jenůfa , Katja Kabanowa and The Makropulos Case . In 2006 he conducted the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and accompanied the Wagner program of heroic tenor Ben Heppner with the Rotterdam Philharmonic . In Lyon he opened the 2006/2007 opera season with Lohengrin . In 2015 he conducted Elektra at the Zurich Opera House with Evelyn Herlitzius in the title role.

Koenigs has made guest appearances in other countries such as Chile, Russia, Japan and Italy. His repertoire includes around 40 operas.
