Lothar Sauer (born September 10, 1930 in Essen ; † March 6, 2018 in Betzdorf ) was a German author , translator and photographer .

biography

Lothar Sauer grew up as the oldest of three children in Essen; the biochemist and nature photographer Frieder Sauer was his younger brother. The family was moved to Betzdorf an der Sieg during the war . After Sauer had read intensively at a young age, he began to write poetry at the age of 15. Other educational experiences were Schopenhauer and Freud . Sauer wrote his first work "The Chronicle of the State of Neulati" at the age of 23 in Tübingen; a publisher was not found for this until 1960. From 1962 he dealt with ghost and ghost stories, which led to his most famous works, which were published by Herder Verlag between 1970 and 1978 in four anthologies.

From 1980 Lothar Sauer went on numerous trips, about which he reported at slide lectures. As a translator, Lothar Sauer mainly worked with French - and more rarely also English - poems. He became known as a photographer from 1957, initially through black and white photos in Günter Stiff's youth calendars and from 1964 in the youth magazine der eisbrecher , before switching to color travel photography in 1980.
