Lothar Waldmüller

Lothar Waldmüller (* 8. April 1936 in Dessau , Saxony-Anhalt ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian , church historian , emeritus university professor and canon .

Life

Waldmüller studied philosophy at the Philosophical and Theological College Freising and Theology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich theology . He was ordained a priest in 1961. He continued his studies and completed them in 1971 with a doctorate and in 1980 with a habilitation. In 1981 the then Archbishop of Munich and Freising Joseph Ratzinger appointed him as the Archdiocese's personnel officer for priests and other pastoral careers. In 1990 Friedrich Wetter , Archbishop of the Archdiocese from 1982, assigned him the task of advisor for ecumenism and, from 1993, as advisor for universal church tasks. In these management positions he received the title of Ordinariatsrat, from 1989 later he belonged to the Metropolitan Chapter of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising as Cathedral Chapter.

Since the winter semester 1989/90 he taught as a lecturer, from the winter semester 1990/91 until 2007 as an honorary professor for church history in the Middle Ages and modern times at the Philosophical-Theological University of Benediktbeuern .

The focus of his work is the theology and history of the Eastern Churches, as well as the cooperation with them in many fields of work, including practical ones.

In his role as advisor for world church tasks, Waldmüller oversaw several hundred pastoral care, Caritas and education projects, especially in Eastern Europe and Latin America, and was responsible for the partnership between the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and the dioceses of Ecuador.

Waldmüller lives in Prien am Chiemsee . Since 1956 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Aenania Munich .
