Lothar von Seuffert

Lothar von Seuffert (born June 15, 1843 in Würzburg , † March 25, 1920 in Munich ) was a German legal scholar .

life and work

From 1861 Lothar von Seuffert studied law at the University of Würzburg. He received his doctorate on July 24, 1868, and in 1872 he was a substitute public prosecutor in Augsburg, in 1875 he was appointed city judge in Munich, and later he was the recorder of the Justice Commission of the Berlin Reichstag.

In 1876 Seuffert was appointed full professor at the University of Giessen, where he was rector in 1879/80. In 1881 he moved to the University of Greifswald, 1884 to Erlangen, 1888 to Würzburg (Rector 1890/91), and finally in 1895 to the University of Munich.

Seuffert signed the declaration of the university professors of the German Reich of October 23, 1914. In today's jurisprudence primarily his work on the author's right to literary products is quoted.

Lothar von Seuffert was the grandfather of the German lawyer and SPD politician Walter Seuffert .
