Louis Devedeux
Louis Devedeux (born July 8, 1820 in Clermont-Ferrand , † 1874 in Paris ) was a French genre painter of Orientalism.
Devedeux studied from 1836 at the École des beaux-arts de Paris and was a student of Paul Delaroche and Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps .
He was mainly concerned with genre painting of the orientalist milieu, although he never visited the countries of the Orient. He was inspired by the literature of Gustave Flaubert and Théophile Gautier, as well as travel reports by his contemporaries such as Eugène Fromentin .
He exhibited his works in the Salon de Paris from 1838 onwards , and also showed his works in Hamburg in 1872 and Vienna in 1876. The painting "Der Sklavenhandler" was bought by the Salon in 1867 for the art collections of Emperor Napoleon III. shopped.
