Louis Falk

Louis Wahl Falk (born December 30, 1935 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is an Anglican Archbishop .

Life

In 1953, Falk graduated from the University School of Milwaukee . On September 3, 1955, he married Carol Alice Froemming. In 1958, Falk graduated from Lawrence College (now Lawrence University ) with a focus on philosophy and received a Bachelor of Arts with the distinction summa cum laude . He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa . In 1962, Falk completed a Master of Divinity with distinction cum laude at Nashotah House , a seminary of the Episcopal Church . After being ordained a deacon on January 23, 1962, he was ordained a priest of the Episcopal Church on August 6. Falk then resigned from active service with the Episcopal Church and became a businessman. From 1976 to 1981 he was President of General Growth Management Company in Des Moines , Iowa.

In the late 1970s, Falk joined the Anglican Catholic Church . He became principal of St. Aidan's Parish , Des Moines. In 1981 he was elected the first bishop of the Diocese of Missouri Valley. Finally on February 14, 1981 in Des Moines, Falk was ordained bishop by James Orin Mote (Diocese of the Holy Trinity), Carmino de Catanzaro ( Anglican Catholic Church of Canada ), William F. Burns (Diocese of the Resurrection), William O. Lewis (Diocese of the Midwest) and William Dejarnette Rutherford (Diocese of the Mid Atlantic).

In 1983, Falk became Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Catholic Church . In the late 1980s, the Anglican Catholic Church, led by Falk, entered into talks with the American Episcopal Church to seek union between the two churches. The two churches united in October 1991 to form the Anglican Church in America , of which Falk became the first head. Falk also helped found the Traditional Anglican Communion and also became its first head.

In 2002, Falk gave up his office as primate of the Traditional Anglican Communion . He was succeeded in office by Archbishop John Hepworth . In 2005, Falk also retired as a primate of the Anglican Church in America and as bishop of the Diocese of Missouri Valley, in which Bishop Stephen D. Strawn succeeded him. After the Church was restructured, it was decided to appoint a President of the House of Bishops instead of a Primate . Falk was elected the first President of the House of Bishops and is thus head of this member church of the Traditional Anglican Communion .
