Louis Gigou

Louis Gigou (* 19th century in Paris ; † 20th century ) was a French art locksmith who was known for his fittings on doors and furniture as well as his light objects in the Art Deco style .

Gigou attended the Paris School of Arts and Crafts École Boulle , where he trained as a decorator and carpenter . Then he learned the locksmith trade in his father's workshop.

He designed a series of fittings , such as door handles , keys , door scouts and Castle fenders made from embossed bronze , wrought iron and steel with copper deposits , which in doors and furniture in the style of Art Deco were used. Between 1903 and 1938 Gigou created more than 4,000 locking devices. His work also includes desk lamps and a number of other decorative lights in Art Deco design.

Gigou exhibited regularly at the Salon of the Société des artistes décorateurs . From 1932 he experimented with stainless steel and showed the results at the Paris World Exhibition in 1937 in the pavilion of the Société des artistes décorateurs , where he presented matt, sandblasted and polished steel parts with a new decorative shape and effect.

His work was also successful at international exhibitions, for example he received an honorary diploma at the World Exhibition in Milan in 1906 and the Franco-British Exhibition in London in 1908 as well as a Grand Prix each at the World Exhibition in Turin in 1911 , the World Exhibition in Ghent in 1913 and the Paris Colonial Exhibition in 1931 . He was a member of the juries at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels modern Paris 1925 and the World Exhibition in Paris 1937 , as well as secretary of the jury of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France , which is held every four years .
