Louis Salvérius , also known as Salvé , (* 1935 in Soignies ; † May 22, 1972 ) was a Belgian cartoonist .

Life

After completing his military service, Salvérius found work at Dupuis in 1956 . Initially occupied with smaller illustrations for Risque-Tout and Spirou , he drew a commercial for Cécémel, a cocoa drink, in 1959. From 1959 to the beginning of 1965, a few minirécits (comics in mini format) were created for Spirou with changing authors, most of which were already shaped by the Indian and Wild West themes typical of the draftsman. Salvé's first series heroes were the cowboy twins Tim et Tom , three of whom appeared in mini-comics between 1962 and early 1965. With the scriptwriter of the series, Jacques Devos , Salvé also created the one to two-sided gags about Whamoka et Whikilowat , an Indian father and son , between 1963 and 1967 . These figures were also adapted for two illustrated children's books in 1966, which were published in German by Kauka as volumes 1 and 4 of the series Das Bunte Bussi-Buch . Another Indian Salvéian coinage was created for the genre of mini-comics: the hapless warrior Petit-Cactus (English: Little Cactus) experienced eight adventures around the hatchet according to scenarios by Paul Deliège 1968/69.

In 1968, Raoul Cauvin Salvérius suggested making the drawings for The Blue Boys (French Les Tuniques Bleues). This is his first major series, first published in the weekly Spirou on August 29, 1968 . In addition to a few one-page stories and short stories, he drew 4 volumes about soldiers of the northern states in the American Civil War . Salvérius used an all around comical style in the stories. The figures do not yet resemble the current ones, but rather remind of Ryssack or Franquin . He could no longer complete the band Outlaw . He died on May 22, 1972.

The unfinished adventure is completed in Salvérius' cartoonish style by Willy Lambil , who took over the series in 1972. In the following volumes the style becomes more and more realistic.
