Willy Lambillote (born May 16, 1936 in Tamines ) is a Belgian comic artist who became known under the stage name Willy Lambil .

Life

Having long the Academy of Fine Arts from a year Brussels had visited Lambil began as a 16-year-old from the publisher Dupuis with the lettering of comics.

At the age of 23, he brought out his first comic strip Sandy et Hoppy in 1959 . This series depicts the adventures of a boy and his kangaroo and was published in the comic magazine Spirou . The series was published until 1974. It is now also available in full in album form in French-speaking countries. Parallel to this series, he drew five episodes of the Uncle Paul series from 1962 to 1963 and the Hobby et Koala series from 1968 to 1973 .

In 1972 he took over the series The Blue Boys (French Les Tuniques Bleues ) after the draftsman Louis Salvérius died. Lambil completed the album Outlaw he had begun in the caricature style Salvérius; but he himself carefully gave the series a more realistic style from the next album on. After the album Outlaw , he published 50 volumes of The Blue Boys together with Raoul Cauvin in a regular rhythm of 8 to 14 months. The last for the time being was published in October 2016 under the title "Carte blanche pour un Bleu" as volume 60 of the series.

In 1973 he created the Pauvre Lampil series with Cauvin , in which Lambil caricatures himself. The ailments of "Lampil", as he calls himself in this series, are discussed: his hypochondria, his sometimes difficult relationship with the copywriter Cauvin and the frustration of not being as well known and popular as other illustrators. These comics originally appeared in Spirou magazine under the new heading Carte Blanche (“The Empty Page” or “Free Letter”), in which young talents could both present their best work and publish unconventional short stories. A total of seven albums with mostly two-sided gag comics were released.
