Uncle Paul ( Les belles histoires de l'oncle Paul ) is a Franco-Belgian comic series published between 1951 and 1982 .

action

Mostly historical events were portrayed. These were integrated into a small framework in which the pipe-smoking Uncle Paul gave his two nephews a knowledgeable and vivid description of the events.

background

On behalf of the World Press by Georges Troisfontaines, Jean-Michel Charlier began this didactic series in 1951 in Spirou . The portrait of Uncle Paul and his two nephews was by Victor Hubinon and was added at the beginning and at the end of every short story. The appearance was adapted over time by the respective draftsman. The short stories were usually four pages long, but could be five or six pages. Eddy Paape , Dino Attanasio , René Follet , Jean Graton , MiTacq and Gérald Forton shaped the first years. Many young draftsmen started their careers here.

In addition to Jean-Michel Charlier, other authors such as René Goscinny or Dino Attanasio were also able to make individual contributions. Octave Joly , with the company since 1951, became the sole author in 1954 and wrote more than a thousand short stories by 1982. Pierre Dupuis took responsibility for the series from the World Press in 1968 and continued it with Arthur Piroton, José Lopez Fernandez, Juan Manuel Cicuendez and Claude Pascal. As before, young artists were able to demonstrate their skills in this series. In 1980 and 1982 the length of the stories was limited to one page.
