Derib

Derib (actually Claude de Ribaupierre ; born August 8, 1944 in La Tour-de-Peilz , Canton of Vaud ) is a Swiss comic artist . He published more than fifty comic albums.

Career

In 1965 Derib joined Peyo's studio , on whose hit series The Smurfs he worked until 1970. In the same year he realized several episodes of the Oncle Paul series for Spirou magazine based on other scenarios . In 1967 appeared with the opening volumes of Attila and the style marcinelle school held Funny series The Adventures of Pythagoras his first album long work. Both series clearly show the influence of his great role model Peyo.

After Derib returned to Switzerland in 1970, he changed his style. The first project was Yakari , which was created based on scenarios by Job (alias André Jobin ) until 2016 . From volume 40 Derib will then work on the series with Joris Chamblain . The series is about the Indian boy Yakari, who can talk to animals. Yakari - like Derib's previous work - was aimed at children, but with the theme of the series he had tried a new subject, which he was to gain new sides in almost all of his subsequent stories: The world and the life of the Indians , mainly the Sioux tribes. He formulated his ideas about the relationship between “white” and “red” culture most clearly in what is probably his most successful series Buddy Longway , which he has drawn for Tintin since 1972 , as well as in the trilogy Der Weg des Schamanen and the four-part series Red Road , which busy with the genocide of the Indians and its aftermath in the present. In 1994 he was awarded the Max and Moritz Prize for the best German-language publication for Red Road .

In the 1990s, he also began drawing more socially motivated comics. So in 1991 Jo , the first published comic about AIDS and in 1995 with Pour toi, Sandra a comic about prostitution .
