Louis Schlösser (born November 17, 1800 in Darmstadt ; † November 17, 1886 there ) was a German composer and concert virtuoso .

Life

As the son of a Jewish innkeeper, Schlösser was trained as a musician with the help of grand ducal scholarships, from 1822 to 1823 in Vienna with Antonio Salieri , Joseph Mayseder and Ignaz von Seyfried , then in Paris with Rodolphe Kreutzer and Jean-François Lesueur . Later he was court and chamber musician in Darmstadt and from 1858 court conductor of the Darmstadt orchestra.

He maintained lively relationships with numerous famous musicians of his time, including Ludwig van Beethoven , Franz Schubert , Carl Maria von Weber , Katharina Cibbini and Hector Berlioz . He described his encounter with Beethoven in extensive memories.
