Louisa Bassano

Louisa Bassano (born February 19, 1818 - August 20, 1908 in London ) was a British opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Louisa Bassano was the second daughter of Clemente Bassano and the older sister of the famous photographer Alexander Bassano (1829-1913). Together with the Hungarian composer and pianist Franz Liszt , she toured the British Isles between 1840 and 1841 . On August 26, 1846, Miss Bassano sang in the world premiere of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Elias in Birmingham and Queen Victoria and her Prince Consort Albert were present at one of the concerts, who granted Mendelssohn and Bassano an audience .

In 1849 Louisa Bassano married the pianist Frederick George Boddy († 1853). Madame Bassano later taught singing at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she was also elected a member.
