Louise Müller , b. Kress (born July 24, 1763 in Göttingen ; † August 24, 1829 in Neustrelitz ) was a German singer ( alto ) and piano teacher.

Life

Louise Kress was a daughter of the composer and violinist Georg Philipp Kress (1719–1779) and received her first music lessons from Johann Nikolaus Forkel .

Around 1782 she got an engagement in Hamburg and sang there for several years under the direction of Friedrich Ludwig Schröder . Among her friends were the singers Elisabeth Mara and Felicitas Benda nee. Ritz (1757–1835), who was married to the violinist and concertmaster Friedrich Ludwig Benda from 1778 to 1789 . She later worked at the Deutsches Theater in Amsterdam . In recent years she has lived as a court singer at the court of Grand Duke Georg in Neustrelitz.

“In her day she was considered one of the greatest singers in Germany and later an excellent singing teacher in Germany. As an excellent contralto she was called to Strelitz as a grand ducal chamber singer, trained many capable students there for the pianoforte and died in 1829. "

Louise Müller was the mother of the composer and conductor Carl Friedrich Müller (1796–1846).
