Lourdes Chapel (Stadtschwarzach)
The so-called Lourdes Chapel in Stadtschwarzach , Lower Franconia, is a place of worship consecrated to Our Lady of Lourdes. The chapel is located on Kolpingstrasse on the edge of the old buildings. Today it is part of the dean's office in Kitzingen .
history
The history of the chapel in Stadtschwarzach begins in 1887, when the figure of Our Lady of Lourdes came to the Franconian community. A few years later, in 1891, work began on building a small chapel in order to be able to keep the figure. Alois Link from Stadtschwarzach could be won as the building master. The Benediction took over in 1892 the local pastor Alois Adalbert Vogl.
In the 20th century, the building was only renovated several times. The chapel received a comprehensive exterior renovation in 1985. The interior of the chapel received a new painting in 1988. Today the church is a subsidiary church of the parish Stadtschwarzach. It is located just outside the ground monument of the Stadtschwarzacher city fortifications.
Architecture and equipment
The small church presents itself as a hall building . It is east-facing and has a polygonal choir closure. Two pointed arch windows were attached to the small rectangular building. The portal is on the west side. The small ridge turret from the year it was built was also erected here. It includes a small bell. There are also two small angel figures on the facade. Inside the above mentioned figure of Mary can be found. In addition, the painter Josef Mahler created a modern cycle of Mary as a fresco.
