The Loutrophoros of Olympichos is a funerary monument in the ancient Athenian cemetery of Kerameikos .

The Loutrophoros of Olympichos was found east of the first byway south of the Hiera Hodos . The approximately 120 centimeter high sculpture stands behind the grave area of the Antidosis , but was still visible to passers-by from the side path. She stood on a cube-shaped base made of limestone . On the base was an inscription with the dedication of the grave vase : Olympichos, son of Diodoros from the Demos Skambonidai . Unlike the other bases in the Kerameikos region, the base has been preserved in its original location. The Loutrophoros was found only a short distance away. It came into the earth in ancient times. Except for the muzzle plate and splinters on the right handle, the sculpture is almost completely preserved, but it was broken on the neck. On the front the massive handles were executed in relief, on the back they were only painted on. When the statue was found, there were still remnants of the paint.

Diodorus from the demos from Skambonidai is known from ancient sources . From 377/76 BC Until 374/73 BC He was assigned as grammateus (secretary) to the Attic representatives in the Delian -Attic Sea League and with representatives of other allies as so-called amphytions to protect the Delian Apollo sanctuary. Diodoros' father was also an Olympichus from the Skambonidai demos. Hippostrate, daughter of Diodorus from the Skambonidai demos, was probably his sister. Olympichos probably died unmarried, as suggested by the use of the Loutrophoros as grave decorations.

The Loutrophoros and the associated tomb were built around 370 BC. Built in BC. The original is now on display in the Kerameikos Museum . A copy in the form of a plaster cast can be found on the site of the find. The original was found in 1932 during the excavations of the German Archaeological Institute in Athens led by Karl Kübler .
