Jutta Stroszeck

Jutta Stroszeck (* 1961 in Donauwörth ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Jutta Stroszeck studied classical and Christian archeology as well as prehistory and early history at the Universities of Erlangen , Göttingen and the Free University of Berlin from 1980 to 1986 . In 1986 she obtained her master’s degree in Erlangen and was there in 1991 with the work of lion sarcophagi. Sarcophagi with lions' heads, striding lions and lion fighting groups . In 1991/92 she received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute for her work and was able to travel to the Mediterranean with its help . In 1992/93 Stroszeck worked on the corpus of ancient sarcophagus reliefs in Marburg . Since November 1993 she has been employed at the Athens Department of the German Archaeological Institute . Initially, she was responsible for the library, and since December she has been the local director of the Kerameikos excavation . In 2006 she conceived the exhibition The Holy Mammas - Protector of Shepherds and Flocks at the German Shepherd Museum in Hersbruck .

Stroszeck is primarily researching Kerameikos from Athens. Here she dealt with the state graves as well as the Lacedaemonian grave , the Tritopatreion and pottery production in the Kerameikos area. Other projects in Kerameikos are on water management, the streets, and the cults and shrines in Kerameikos. In addition, she conducts general research on Greek state graves, job-related cults, the reception of antiquities and the history of research.
