Lovdata is a foundation of the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and the University of Oslo for information systems of law . The other of the five members of the Supervisory Board are the two professional associations of judges and lawyers and the Parliament of Norway.

The organization is the publisher of the official legal gazette and codes of law of Norway, as well as publisher of several series on the law in Scandinavia and the European Union .

Since May 1995 the organization has been running a website that makes national and local regulations and current judgments available free of charge.

The running costs are covered by the chargeable access to the foundation's archive , which goes back to judgments and drafts of laws from the 19th century .
