The Lover's Leap Bridge is a wrought iron lenticular triangle girder bridge over the Housatonic River in Lovers Leap State Park in New Milford, Connecticut . It consists of a single bridge element 173 ft (53 m) long that is supported on stone bearings. It was built in 1895 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company and was intended for Pumpkin Hill Road . It was one of the last bridges to be built by the company. Until 1977 the bridge was also used for vehicles. Today there is a new road bridge a little further north. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 13, 1976 .
The name of the bridge takes on the place name, which itself goes back to the legend of the Indian Lilinonah and her lover.
