Lovers Leap State Park is a state park in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the municipality of New Milford above the Housatonic River . It is part of the Housatonic River Belt Greenway .
geography
The park covers an area of 64.7 hectares (160 acres). It is divided into three sections: While the ruins of industrial plants can be visited along the Housatonic Railroad in the west of the park, the route leads over the Lover's Leap Bridge , a monument that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places , to the east side of the Lake Lilinonah to the rock formation that gives the park its name. On the way there you can imagine the time of the first trappers who traded with the local Indians on the submerged island of Goodyear Island . The Lover's Leap is a hill from which according to legend Lilinonah , daughter of Pootatuck- Sachem Waramaug , is bound together with her lover to death. The elevation rises to 158 m (518 ft) above sea level . The park is open all year round.
