Nehantic State Forest is a state forest in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the parishes of Lyme , East Lyme, and Salem .

geography

The forest covers 2049 hectares (5062 acres) in two parcels. The forest was acquired as early as 1926, although even then it was difficult to find a contiguous piece of forest in the heavily populated district. The parcels are separated by Grassy Hill and are approximately 3 km apart. The northeast parcel of the park adjoins Hartman Park and is bordered to the south by the Yale Engineering School site . A high voltage power line runs along the parish of East Lyme and Salem. The Beaver Brook drains west over the Eightmile River to the Connecticut River while the Fourmile River and the Cranberry Meadow Brook (Pattangansett River) drain south to Long Island Sound .

In the western parcel, the paths in the park also give access to the Becket Hill State Park Reserve in the southeast. In addition to Uncas Pond and Norwich Pond , which are in the same geological furrow and connected by Falls Brook , there are a number of small pools in the park. Uncas Pond and Norwich Pond are accessible via their own boat ramps. The Brook Falls drains via the Hamburg Cove to the Connecticut River.

Freetime activities

There are opportunities for hiking, picnicking, swimming, hunting, and boating in the park.
