Erich Zimmerlin

Erich Zimmerlin (born August 28, 1909 in Aarau ; † November 1, 1999 there ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ). From 1941 to 1961 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau and from 1947 to 1961 City President of Aarau.

biography

The son of the editor Karl Wilhelm Zimmerlin and Lydia Weiss graduated from the canton school in Aarau . From 1929 Zimmerlin studied law at the universities of Zurich , Paris , Munich and Leipzig . In 1932 he finished with a dissertation on "The Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Aargau". After internships at the Aarau District Court and as an interrogator in Appenzell Ausserrhoden , he opened his own law firm in Aarau in 1934. In 1939 he married Anna Maria Heuberger, with whom he had a son. He was also an actuary of the cantonal appeals commission, the federal appraisal commission and the federal investigating judge.

Zimmerlin's political career began in 1941 with his election to the Aargau Grand Council , which he chaired in 1956/57. In 1947 he was additionally appointed mayor elected by Aarau. His tenure was characterized by the execution of numerous infrastructure projects. These include the new Chain Bridge , the Gönhardschule, several kindergartens, various sports facilities in Schachen and the extension of the town hall . At the same time he was a member of the board of directors of the Allgemeine Aargauische Ersparniskasse (predecessor of the Neue Aargauer Bank ) from 1948 to 1981 , and as its president from 1966 to 1978.

In 1961 Zimmerlin retired from all political offices and worked as a law editor and commentator nationwide. In particular, he wrote the Aargau Building Act of 1971, to which an extensive commentary belongs. In 1979 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel .
