Lovington is a city in the US state of New Mexico that had 9,471 inhabitants at the 2000 census. It is located in Lea County and is the seat of the county administration ( County Seat ). Lovington has its own airfield, Lovington Airport .

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Lovington was inhabited by 9,471 people. The population density was 766.6 people per km ². There were 3823 housing units at an average of 309.4 per km ². The Lovington population was 59.85% White , 3.03% Black or African American , 0.78% Native American , 0.48% Asian , 0.06% Pacific Islander , 32.74% said other races belong to and 3.06% named two or more races. 52.12% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
