Luís Paulo Alves

Luís Paulo Alves (born September 19, 1961 in Horta , Azores ) is a Portuguese politician ( PS ). He is currently a member of the European Parliament .

Alves studied business management at the University of the Azores , where he graduated in 1989. In 1990 he became a civil servant at the Portuguese Court of Auditors and from 1991 to 2009 he was managing director of the milk company Unileite. At the same time, Alves was politically committed to the Partido Socialista . In 1986 he was in the presidential election campaign of Mário Soares his party's youth representative for the Azores, in the European elections in 1999 and 2004 he led the election campaign for the MEP Paulo Casaca in the Azores . From 2000 to 2009 Alves was a member of the Azores regional parliament.

In the European elections in Portugal in 2009 , Alves won a seat in the European Parliament , where, like all members of his party, he joined the social democratic group S&D . He is a member of the regional development committee .
