Luís Tilman (2017)

Luís Alves Tilman (fighting name Mau-Hunu ) is an East Timorese politician. He was a candidate in East Timor's 2017 presidential election .

Career

On February 5, Tilman announced as the last of eight candidates that he would run for the presidential election. Previously, he was largely unknown to the public.

Tilman was previously President of the East Timorese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-TL) in the municipality of Ermera and coordinator of the União Democrática Timorense (UDT) party in Ermera. In the parliamentary elections in East Timor 2012 , Tilman ran for 8th place on the UDT list. But the party failed because of the three percent hurdle.

Although Tilman was asked to run for presidential elections from several quarters, he received no official support from his party, so he decided to run as an independent candidate. He previously announced his resignation as coordinator and his resignation from the UDT. In his election campaign, Tilman emphasized that he wanted to stand for the new generation in the country that did not come from the veterans of the struggle for independence. He wanted to focus on the development of human resources, which had been too weak until now. According to the preliminary final result, Tilman received 11,124 votes in the presidential elections, which means a share of 2.15%. With that he reached number 5.
