General Lubin Martin Vandermaesen

Lubin-Martin Vandermaesen (born November 11, 1766 in Versailles , † September 1, 1813 in San Marcial ) was a French Général de division of the infantry .

Life

In 1792 Vandermaesen joined the army as a volunteer and was able to distinguish himself very quickly; as early as 1792 he fought with the rank of lieutenant in the battle of Wissembourg (October 13, 1793).

After renewed promotions, Vandermaesen moved to the staff of General Claude Ignace François Michaud and fought in several battles in which he was also wounded.

After the peace treaty of Amiens (March 25/27, 1802) Napoleon sent him to the eastern colonies. On March 6, 1803 Vandermaesen sailed from Brest to Puducherry in India; Long stays on Île de France and Réunion were planned .

After the naval battle of Grand Port (23 August 1810) Vandermaesen was able to return to France. After another promotion, he joined the staff of General Marie-François Auguste de Caffarelli du Falga .

From 1812 Vandermaesen was assigned to the Napoleonic War in Spain . Under the leadership of General Bertrand Clausel he fought in northern Spain, later he came to Marshal Nicolas Jean-de-Dieu Soult . Vandermaesen was seriously wounded in the Battle of San Marcial (August 31, 1813) and died the following day in the field hospital on the edge of the battlefield.
