Lubina (name)

Lubina is a female given name common in Germany and the Netherlands . It was created twice independently of one another: on the one hand as a Sorbian first name from Slavic roots, on the other hand as an East Frisian - Dutch first name from Germanic roots. The family name is also of Slavic origin.

etymology

The Sorbian name derives from the protoindogermanischen stem * leubh - / * lubh- (like desire, love) over protoslawisch * ljub- and means, the charm end, the lovely '. Related are, for example, Upper Sorbian lubić so (fallen) or lubostny / ~ a / ~ e (loving) or Lower Sorbian lubosny / ~ a / ~ e (lovely) or lubka (beloved woman).

The East Frisian-Dutch name is derived from female or male two-stem Germanic names of the form 'Liut-b ...' or 'Lud-b ...' - that is, the first part of the name was always Liut- (people, people) or Lud- (from Germ. klôd: loudly audible, famous) and the second began with 'b', like ~ bert (shiny, bright, famous) or ~ berg / ~ borg / ~ burg / ~ berich (bergerin, guardian, Protector). Short forms like Lube (w, m), Luba (w) or Lubo (m) were formed from names such as Liutberg (w), Liutbert (m) or Ludborg (w); from these, in turn, the name Lubina was created by adding the feminine ending ~ ina.
