Lucas Hartong (born May 24, 1963 in Dordrecht ) is a Dutch politician . He represented the right-wing populist Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) in the European Parliament.

Life

Hartong began his political career with his own party, the Democratic Platform Nederland . He later joined the Lijst Pim Fortuyn . In the 2006 election for the Second Chamber of the States General , he stood as a candidate for the PVV, but was not elected. For these and later positions on behalf of the PVV, he was personally appointed by party member Geert Wilders .

In 2009 he became parliamentary assistant for the PVV in the European Parliament . In June 2010 he took over the seat of parliament from Louis Bontes , who moved to the second chamber of the Dutch States General . Hartong belonged to the group of non-attached MPs in the EU Parliament. He was a member of the Budget Committee and the delegation for relations with the United States. He was a deputy in the Committee on Budgetary Control and in the delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China.

Before the elections to the European Parliament in 2014 , Hartong announced on March 24, 2014 that he did not want to work with certain ENF politicians in the future; therefore he will not run again. On the same day he also took over the chairmanship of the PVV MPs in the European Parliament because the previous chairman Laurence Stassen had left the parliamentary group after Wilders' statements. His term of office therefore ended on July 1, 2014.

From 2010 to 2013, Hartong was also a board member of the Dutch automobile club ANWB .
