The Lucia Chapel is a Roman Catholic branch church in the Beckingen district of Erhaben . It is a listed monument as a single monument. The chapel is dedicated to St. Lucia of Syracuse .

history

The chapel's early history is unknown. It is assumed that it was built in the 11th century. A new building took place in the 15th century. From 1770 to 1772 a hall was added to the small prayer room and the old chapel became a choir. In the 20th century the chapel was restored several times inside and outside, most recently in 1997 to 2000 restoration.

architecture

The small hall building is closed in the east by a square choir. The narrow passage of the choir wall is painted with foliage. In the choir there is a round arched window on the long sides, in the hall itself a round arched and a high rectangular stained glass window. In the niche above the heavy wooden door there is a figure of Lucia, above in the gable area two very narrow windows. A square roof ridge sits on the slated roof.

Furnishing

The church is equipped with a baroque altar from the 17th century, which comes from the Mettlach Abbey . Like some others in the Haustadter Valley (e.g. in the Marcellus Chapel ) , the altar was made by an immigrant Tyrolean woodcarver. The figure of St. Lucia was stolen from the altar in 1976. In 1937 the parish acquired several terracotta Stations of the Cross from the Villeroy & Boch company .

Bells

In 1939, the church bell had to be delivered to the National Socialists as raw material. only in 1950 did the chapel get a new bell.
