Luciana Maria Rabello Pinheiro (* 1961 in Petrópolis ) is a Brazilian cavaquinho player and composer . She is the sister of the singer Amélia Rabello and the guitarist Raphael Rabello .

Life

Luciana Rabello began to learn guitar at the age of six under the guidance of her grandfather . She also learned the piano for five years . At 13 she wrote her first compositions. In 1975 she founded the choro ensemble Os Carioquinhas together with her brother Raphael Rabello and switched to the cavaquinho , which from then on became her main instrument. In 1978 she became a member of the Camerata Carioca with Radamés Gnattali , who became her mentor. In the following years she worked with many well-known Brazilian musicians such as Elizeth Cardoso , Paulinho da Viola , Francis Hime , Martinho da Vila , Joel Nascimento , Baden Powell de Aquino , Toquinho and Copinha at concerts and in the studio. Tours through Europe followed in 1981 and 1982. In 1985 she married the musician Paulo César Pinheiro.

In 2005 Luciana Rabello took part in the documentary Brasileirinho about the music of the choro by Mika Kaurismäki . Nowadays she plays an important role in Brazil as an instrumentalist as well as a teacher for the cavaquinho.
