Luciana Stegagno-Picchio

Luciana Stegagno-Picchio (born April 26, 1920 in Alessandria , † August 28, 2008 in Rome ) was an Italian Romanist , Lusitanist , Brazilianist , translator and literary scholar.

life and work

Luciana Picchio studied Classical Philology and Archeology at the University of Turin and La Sapienza University in Rome (graduated in 1942). She added a degree in Portuguese. In 1944 she married the doctor Giannantonio Stegagno. In 1956 she became a university assistant. Then she taught Portuguese, from 1959 to 1968 at the University of Pisa and from 1969 at the University of Rome. She was founding editor of the magazine Quaderni portoghesi (1977-1984) and co-editor of the magazine Letteratura d'America .

Luciana Stegagno-Picchio was a corresponding member of the Academia Brasileira de Letras (2000) and an honorary doctorate from the University of Lisbon (1997/1998).
