Luciano Bruno

Luciano Bruno (born May 23, 1963 in Foggia ) is a former Italian boxer . Bruno was a silver medalist at the 1983 European Championships and a bronze medalist at the 1984 Olympic Games .

Career

amateur

Bruno was Italian champion in 1980 and 1981 light welterweight (-63.5 kg) and 1982 welterweight (-67 kg).

In 1982 Bruno won the silver medal at the Military World Championships in Algiers and in the same year he was also runner-up at the Junior European Championships (U19) in Schwerin , losing in the final to Torsten Schmitz , GDR (5-0). He achieved the same placement at the European Championships in the following year. His final opponent this time was Petr Galkin, Soviet Union (4: 1). At the 1983 Mediterranean Games , Bruno also won the silver medal. In the same year he also won the World Cup in Rome .

At the 1984 Olympic Games , Bruno reached the semi-finals after winning over Georges Bosco, Benin (5: 0), Peter Okumu, Nigeria (4: 1), and Alexander Künzler , Germany (5: 0), which he beat against the eventual Olympic champion Mark Breland , USA (5-0), lost and won the Olympic bronze medal.

In 1984 Bruno played his first professional fight. He remained undefeated in this and the following 8 fights and ended his career in 1987 without ever fighting for a title. He won six of the nine fights by knockout.
