Lucius Cluentius

Lucius Cluentius († 89 v. Chr. At Nola ) was a family of Cluentier entstamme Direction, in the late phase of the Roman Republic against Sulla fighting leader of the Italians .

Cluentius wanted during the Social War besieged Pompeii shocking, but had to put up against Sulla defeat. Nevertheless, after the arrival of reinforcement troops consisting of Gauls , he made another attempt at relief, but was defeated in 89 BC. BC struck again. 3000 of his soldiers were killed by Sulla's troops pursuing them during their subsequent flight to Nola . Many other men (allegedly 20,000) of Cluentius and Cluentius himself fell outside the walls of Nola, as the inhabitants only allowed the fleeing people to enter the city through a gate, fearing that Sulla's army might also penetrate.
