Ludger Weeke

Ludger Weeke (born April 25, 1949 in Hamm ) is a German water polo player .

Ludger Weeke played for SC Rote Erde Hamm throughout his career . In 1969, 1971, 1973 and 1975 the 1.78 m tall attacking player was a German water polo champion .

In 1967 he made his debut in the national team , for which he played a total of 180 international matches. At the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968 , he finished tenth with the German team. This was followed by seventh place at the 1970 European Championships. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the German team qualified for the final round with a second place in the preliminary round and finished fourth. After finishing eighth at the 1974 European Championship, the German team reached sixth place at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. In total, Weeke scored eleven goals in 24 games at the Olympic Games.

Ludger Weeke remained active as a water polo player at the end of his competitive sports career. Although he continued to work for Rote Erde Hamm as a youth coach for many years, he joined the Düsseldorf swimming club as a Masters player, with which he became Masters European Champion in 2018.
