Ludmila Dvořáková

Ludmila Dvořáková , married Ludmila Vasata , ( July 11, 1923 in Kolín - July 30, 2015 in Prague ) was a Czech-Swiss opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Dvořáková was trained by Jarmila Vavrdová at the Prague Conservatory from 1942 to 1949 and made his debut at the Moravian Ostrava City Theater in 1949 as Káťa Kabanová in the opera of the same name by Leoš Janáček . From 1952 to 1954 she was engaged at the Smetana Theater in Prague, from 1954 to 1957 at the National Theater in Prague . At the same time she had a guest performance contract with the Bratislava Opera from 1954 to 1959 .

In 1954 she celebrated great success at the Dvořák commemorations in the Soviet Union. In 1956 she made a guest appearance at the Vienna State Opera as "Leonore" in Fidelio .

In 1960 she was engaged at the Berlin State Opera . In 1966 she was signed to the Metropolitan Opera New York, where she remained until 1968. She performed at the Bayreuth Festival from 1965 to 1971.

Further roles were the “Dyer's Wife ” in The Woman Without a Shadow by Richard Strauss , the “Marschallin” in Rosenkavalier , the “Ariadne” in Ariadne auf Naxos and the dramatic soprano roles in operas by Giuseppe Verdi .

She died on July 30, 2015 in a fire in her home in Prague.

She was married to the conductor Rudolf Vasata (1911–1982), who also accompanied her on the piano. She was buried in the Vyšehrad cemetery in Prague.
