Ludo Simons (born July 20, 1939 in Turnhout ) is a Belgian literary scholar .

Life

Lodewijk Simons is a son of the Flemish poet Jozef Simons (1888–1948) and Maria Simons-Engels (1894–1981). He studied German at the Catholic University of Leuven , received his licentiate in 1960 and received his doctorate with a dissertation on Low German literature in the 19th century.

Simons became curator of the archive and museum of Flemish cultural life and director of the Antwerp city library. He then became professor of book and library studies at the University of Antwerp and the Catholic University of Leuven. In these positions he played an important role in the cultural contact between Flanders and the Netherlands . For many years he was the editorial secretary of the magazine Dietsche Warande & Belfort , which was directed by his teacher and friend Albert Westerlinck . In 2004 he retired.

He is a member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts .

Ludo Simons has been married to Leentje Vandemeulebroecke (* 1942), pseudonym Jo Gisekin , since 1970 and has three children with her.
